It's Autumn, nearly Winter actually. The two seasons jostle for prominence like two hooligans arguing over a seat in a crowded tube train -'I saw it first' 'No you didn't you toe rag, i did' I'm working on various things at the moment -the most exciting of which are the radio projects. That's weird isn't it ? Yet there I am talking to Lucy Armitage and Paul Schlesinger at Radio 4 about Rudy's Rare Records, which is a situation comedy set in a reggae /soul record shop in Birmingham with three generations of men from the same family squabbling about life , love, the soul , and why isn't there a classical music section in this poxy shop? It's written by Danny Robbins and Dan Tetsell from an idea by me and I think it's going to be v. funny. Anansi boys the radio play goes out soon , check your listings for details. Directed gorgeously ( I think ) by Anne Edyvean and overseen by Neil Gaiman; starring Matt Lucas as Graham Coates /Tiger and Rudolph Walker as Anansi and Me as Fat Charlie and Spider , plus Tameka Empson and Joscelyn Gee Esien and Petra Letang and Dona Croll , it promises to be a funny , adventuresome feast of horror/fantasy fun for your ears. I'm looking forward to closing my eyes and surrendering to Gaimanville. Just nipping aside from Radio 4 for a minute - We've finally got a transmission date for Lennyhenry.tv , it's going out from Jan 7 onwards at 22. 35 pm. It's a fun half hour of internet video clips , some home made , some pro made but all funny enough to make mashed potato and gravy squirt out of your nose- so check it out. Back to the radio - Peter Jukes and I came up with this thing a while ago called Bad Faith. It's about those street chaplains -you know the ones, the priests who show up at a motorway pile up and adminster the last rites, or comfort the the sick. He's a conflicted guy -doesn't know if he believes any more -but he still has to keep going because people need him. It's gonna be cool -Peter's written on things like Sea of Souls and In Deep , so he knows his shallots. He's a good chum too (Way too clever -brain like a whale that can do advanced sudoku)and very good looking. Peter also wrote the Slavery project that we did to commemorate 200 years since the abolition etc...I like him , he has good ideas. Simon Elmes the creative director of Radio 4 , who helped produce Len and Will (remember that ? Me all confused about Shakespeare and everyone from Trevor Nunn, through Peter Hall and Judi Dench telling me not to be such a big girl's blouse and get on with it?) is producing another little series with me called What's So Great About : and we're going to try and do other things apart from Shakespeare that I'm not sure about , you know ? Like T.S Eliot , or James Joyce , or Bob Dylan , or The Method , or Philip Glass or Piercing and Tattooing -you know -stuff I can't really get on with (By the way , what is that with the piercing? If you have one of those Prince Alfred's -doesn't the buzzer keep going off when you go through security at theairport? How embarrassing is that? Do you have to take it out , walk through and then put it back in again in front of everyone? I think weeing yourself at the school nativity whilst being video'd by your parents would seem like a fond memory in comparison). I start my MA in Screenwriting for in TV and Film in late spring next year too - I'm really looking forward to 'getting my learn on' again. Fanbloodytastic , they say at the end of two years I'll have a screenplay and a bible for a tv series. Let's hope so -never mind that -let's hope they're good. It'd be terrible if the screenplay was Morons from Outer Space and the TV series was Mrs Noah....Find a high building! So wish me luck there. I'm on the road til December the 9th , please come and holla at me if you get a chance - I'm really enjoying meeting you all and chatting at the end of the shows and all that. It means a lot to me that you come out to see me . Thank you -you the best posse in the world. The Big News : I'm going to be in Australia and New Zealand July 2008 -Antipodean crew , get yo' shit together , we gonna have a ball. The Where you From? Tour is gonna be in your town. Maggie Gerrand productions are putting the whole thing together and I feel it's going to be the best Oz /Nz tour ever! So come check me. I'm watching the last series of The Sopranos at the moment -it's funny and dark and incredibly violent. Tony's revenge on Coco for insulting Meadow was inventive and brutal to say the least. I nearly blew chunks. I'm also just about to watch The Sun always Shines in Philly which my brother Paul and my Sister Sharon have been reccomending for months. So I'm gonna give it a watch and I'll tell you how I feel about it. Chris Rock is gonna be in the UK in Jan , I'm definitely going to be there -'Could you slow down Chris , my pencil broke...' Nah , I ain't gonna steal -everyone'll know. (Stealing material never works - you just end up getting guiltier and guiltier until you have to confess - 'The whole thing with the white suit and the bunny ears and the balloon animals -that wasn't ever me -I stole that from Steve Martin. When I set myself on fire that time ? I was copying Richard Pryor....I'm sorry. That other time when I got shot - I was trying to emulate 50 Cent. 'etc It's not good to nick material , it gets you in a world of trouble. Health wise , I'm good -thanks for asking. I'm gonna have to hit the gym some more because I know I've put on a few pounds. I walked from the Culloden hotel to the Culloden battle field 3 miles up the road and back. I nearly coughed up a lung. That is some walk! No wonder the English lost -they probably hadn't factored that bastard of a hill for a start! Yikes. I'm listening to Parliament -The P.Funk Earth tour , also Stop Making Sense , as Well as Dizzee Rascal Maths and English , Calvin Harris's album and lots of Kate Bush.
