Summer Blog

Posted Monday, August 13, 2007

Sorry for the intermittent nature of my blogs recently -I seem to be upside down and turned around with writing and preparing for the Autumn tour.

I'm calling the show 'Where You From?-The Remix' because it is in essence a completely different show to the one we did at the beginning of the year.

There was the smack of compromise about that show that troubled me throughout. Don't get me wrong - it was an enjoyable tour -but I think that the fact that a lot of the material was fashioned from experiences from Lenny's Britain hampered me in some ways.

When you're writing standup , it's great to let your mind go and see where it ends up. If you are given a rigid structure from the off it can be constraining to say the least.

So the new show is more personal , there's no joke booth , no mention of Lenny's Britain - it's more a journey through who I am and where I'm from -very personal. Of course Lister ,Rachel, Wolfman and Carmicheal survive from the first draft , but most of the stand up has changed.

Lennyhenry.TV comes out in the Autumn (good news) and I had meetings with BBC Bristol (who made Lenny's Britain) yesterday who are interested in doing more documentary style projects.

I've also signed up to work on a radio show for Radio 4 called 'Rudy's Rare Records' ,it's got a good vibe to to it and a v. cool cast. Look out

for that.

The most exciting thing recently was the Prince concert that I had the orgasmic pleasure of attending a couple of weeks ago. The little dude kicked mountainous ass as he took us through the back catalogue to die for -he BEGAN with Purple Rain and it just got better and better. Some had caveats about the size of the venue and the absence of Housequake and Mountains -but generally those naysayers were in the minority. I had a blast and then I tried to get my picture taken with him backstage...which is another story entirely.

Look out for Stardust -an action /Fantasy/comedy movie written by Jane Goldman and directed by Matthew Vaughan. It's the movie adaptation of the Mighty Neil Gaiman's graphic novel and I think it's a good movie...for adults and kids alike..Some big stars are giving their all -De niro ,Michelle Pfieffer, Claire Danes ,Peter O Toole , Sienna Miller ..also quite a lot of comedy type people like Adam Buxton (from Adam and Joe) Mark Williams from The Fast Show, Mark Heap from Green Wing and Ricky Gervais ...All in all , I had a great time and my daughter and her bestie did too.

So there you have it. The Blog. See you at the beginning of the tour on the 7th of September in Stockport. There are more dates being added on the end , and I'll let you know where they are as soon as I get them

Peace

Len
