Open University

I've just finished my last essay for the Open University of the year. ..I want to run down the high street naked screaming 'Yeeehah, its done, its done!'I can spend more time with my family - seriously, with the revision, studying for essays, note taking - if I hang out with my family for more than an hour or so there's something wrong. If I'm still in the living room, eating pretzels and watching soaps when I should be studying an alarm bell goes off in my head 'Hey, schmuck, you wanna hit the books, or ya gonna sit here in you skivvies watching Eastenders ? C'mon, get your lazy butt in the office..' So time with wife and daughter -good.
Obviously, the result won't be in for ages, but there's just this huge sense of relief washing over me.
I can watch The Soprano's boxed set that I got for last Christmas from my sis.
I can watch the DVD of 'Sideways' that I promised myself I'd watch when the study year was all over.
I can take care of career stuff, write a brand new set, hang out with Simon McBurney, sit with Kim Fuller and write a situation comedy, talk to my management about movies and drama and all that good stuff.
I can start playing the piano again - since this year's course began I've been so hung up on the amount of time it has taken to just keep up with everyone else that I stopped my piano lessons. I've since been told that If you play a musical instrument it actually helps your studying efforts -I can't do anything right Goddam it!
I can listen to the CD's I've been stockpiling over the last year. ..John Legend, Franz Ferdinand (love the new single) Goldie Lookin' Chain -safe as f*ck (best title 'your missus is a nutter'.

The Greatest hits of Philadelphia international ! I love the look of this CD-it's got Jean Carn, the Jones Girls, Archie Bell and the Drells (What the hell is a 'Drell' Anyway' ) and so on. So I got some good times ahead ya'all.
The first series of the recent Lenny Henry Show (African Midwife, Ronson, Tanya, Mad DJ, Global News and so on) is airing in Australia soon. This series is when we were attempting to create a little community of comedy characters that would 'bolt on' to the stand up and the music parodies -I think it was a nice try. The series we did this year evolved out of that series and it is interesting that although we kept Lister and Tanya and the stand up and music parodies, we lost almost everything else, because these things evolve, grow and change, particularly when new Producer comes on board.
I think the thing about sketch shows is that everyone has an opinion, and everyone's opinion is valid. ..if you hire a new producer you better be prepared to listen to them, and we did...
I think also Three of a Kind is coming out on DVD and the first two series of Chef, and the concert recording of SO MUCH THINGS TO SAY'..Hallelujah ya'all -at last. I'll keep you posted as to where and when you can get hold of these goodies, needless to say, I'm going to be very excited -going to all the big stores like HMV, and Virgin and subtly re arranging all their displays so that my stuff is at the front and Ricky Gervais's and Billy Connolly's stuff is at the back ! Muhahahahhahahah ! I can't wait.
Any way -I'm outta here - I'm going to Monaco tomorrow to do a show !
